Foolish Tales for Foolish Times

Our newest show, to-date reviewed only inadvertently by audience members. students leaving the play have been overheard saying to their peers such things as:

  • I want to see a hundred more shows like thatand
  • I could see that show everyday!"

What is this Play?

A fitting allegory for the modern age, this play combines four fabulous funky folk tales from around the world to take you on a frolicking journey of venerable folk wisdom about the blunders people make and the messes they get themselves into: Using yesterday's solution to solve today's problem, letting a small mistake become an insurmountable predicament, and just not thinking things through. These tales have it all. We have taken the following classic tales and modified them to suit our philosophy:

  • Clever Grettel by the Brothers Grimm
  • It Could Always Be Worse by Margot Zemach
  • Nanny and Conn from Seamus McCann's Hibernian Nights
  • Lazy Jack, anonymous traditional tale.

How is it Performed?

Puppetmongers' passion for puppetry, their love of play, their unique sense of humour, joined with their artistic vision and creative skill has led them to the invention of a thoroughly ingenious and exciting new play. Ann and David act as your archeologist type hosts in the unearthing of these foolish stories. Each tale is presented in a different style:

  1. Human size figure and glove puppets
  2. Found puppets and pop-up scenery
  3. Toy Theatre and Object Theatre
  4. Tabletop puppetry and elements from all the other tales to create a neighbourhood.

These delightfully detailed works are brilliantly brought to life with vivid story telling, masterful manipulation and excellent acting. This is fun!
