AND A SELECT REVIEW
"What makes the Brick Bros. Circus so enjoyable is it's shamelessness. It demands audience complicity we're in on the same joke - one that is nearly as clever as it is dumb. Puppetmongers explain that the show "has universal appeal, transcends language barriers and really annoys some people." Most people, though, laugh.
The joke? The Powells act as ringmasters to black belt bricks in battle, a tightrope-walking brick, a brick clown, a family of gymnast bricks from the former Brickoslovakia, a wild and untamed brick, a brick on a trapeze, et al.
The sheer presumption made me appreciate the show, But on top of that, there's a solid idea behind the foolishness. The circus distills the essence of puppetry into a single joke, which then repeats itself like a fugue. Somehow the Powells manage to sustain the gag. They've mastered the art of telling a bad joke so elaborately that it's a riot."
