Puppetmongers and the Movies: Recent activities
- We were the Pupperty Department for the feature film Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. Written and directed by Zack Helm, and staring Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman; to be released for Christmas 2007. For this major project we:
- Were concept artists with the design and props departments.
- We made models and action props.
- We created, built and oversaw the construction of puppets and related set components.
- Manipulated puppets on set.
- Gathered together a team of 12 puppeteers, and orchestrated their availability and activity.
- We created the shadow puppetry images in Laura Taler's dance film Death and the Maiden, did Indonesian shadow theatre scenes for a History Channel special about the Bre X scandal, and numerous other smaller projects.
- We rented our studio for the filming of the interviews for the second season DVD of Fraggle Rock.
Puppetmongers' recent services in the Arts Community.
- Play Development
- Currently facilitating Roseneath Theatre in the realization of Rocket and the Queen of Dreams, a shadow play.
- Play development and puppet building with Shadowland Theatre for The Lost Supper.
- Designing, building and manipulating the 5' tall puppets for R. Murray Schafer's Palace of the Cinnabar Phoenix.
- Co-producing shows with new-music composers and with other theatre companies.
- Design and Construction
- Designed sets and costumes for The Secret of Gabi's Dresser for Theatre Te-Amim.
- Building a 4' tall puppet for Theatre New Brunswick's Pinoccio.
- Mask making for dance and theatre companies.
- Designing and building special effects props for theatres.
- Rental of lamps, screens, props, musical instruments, world music recordings and puppets.
- The courses and classes offered to theatre artists through the Toronto School of Puppetry.
We work with the University Community: Recent activities
- Workshop-demonstration and then a show, for first year students in the theatre course at the University of Guelph.
- Assisted the Sheridan College Theatre Department acting and prop students with shadow puppetry for their "Mid Summer Night's Dream".
- Movement workshops for the Post Graduate Theatre Department at the University of Toronto for their wonderful production of "Mr. Punch the Cuckold".
- Demonstration of world puppetry and new trends, plus an object puppetry workshop for the ATHE conference.
- Mask making and toy theatre workshops for teacher candidates at OISE
