About Puppetmongers Theatre

What We Do

  • Puppetmongers create entertaining plays of relevance for intimate audiences
  • We make shows for children, families and adults audiences
  • We build on the traditions to invent new and wonderful forms of puppetry
  • We explore what puppets can be and can do
  • We make puppet theatre that is beautiful, exciting, and delightful
  • We tour locally, nationally and internationally.
  • We work with other artists and companies on projects and productions
  • We offer classes to adult learners through our School of Puppetry

Why We Do It

  • We explore the meaning of life through the exploration of stories. We use stories to reflect on reality, to comment on and raise questions about roles, traditions and stereotypes.
  • We celebrate the richness and diversity of life: we make comparisons of then and now, here and there, this culture and that culture. We explore the complexities of human nature, trying to avoid easy solutions and type casting.
  • We try to understand, sort and define the world around us.
  • We share our vision with the world through performances and workshops
  • Theatre is our choice of art form, and puppetry is our primary tool.
  • We are fascinated by the potential of puppets in theatre
    • the extrapolation from life,
    • the stylization, the scale changes, the filmic qualities possible
    • the communicating with images, the archetypes,
    • the suspension of belief,
    • the control over the entire environment.
  • We combine the visual arts with theatre to explore "magically intense" performance that take our audiences to that "other" state and leave them gasping and satisfied at the end.
  • We explore new territory with each new work: with new materials, techniques, mechanics, design concepts, staging, forms of puppetry and animation
  • We take it very seriously yet have a good time doing it
