School of Puppetry

Spring Intensive Courses 2009

Week 1: The Arts of Puppetry.

June 15 to 19.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

In this course Ann and David Powell, of the Puppetmongers, will lead an exploration of the many arts involved in puppetry.

The mornings are devoted to learning the basics of making and working with glove puppets, rod puppets, marionettes, table top figures and shadows. The afternoons are an exploration of puppetry, in a collaborative, visual, multi-media approach to the art-form. Everyday there will be a workshop with a guest artist and a follow-up that ties the skills back into puppetry. Learn about dramaturgy, movement, voice, music and more. This course of stage-arts is indispensable to people who wish to perform theatre with puppets. Instructors and collaborators include artists Camelia Koo, Mark Cassidy, Chris Earle and Rick Sacks. Please see below for registration details and fees. Some comfort with tools is an asset to registrants. Beginners also welcomed.

Location of the Classes

1110 Dundas is our own private door into this industrial building. In cold weather we may well put up notices to direct you through the building to our inside door.

Directions to Puppetmongers' Studio

Three good ways to get there by TTC:

  1. Queen streetcar to Logan and walk north three blocks to Dundas
  2. College St or Gerrard streetcar to Logan and walk south one block to Dundas
  3. Pape station: the Carlaw bus south-bound. Get off at Dundas and walk west one block.

N.B. The Dundas streetcar from downtown turns north at Broadview, and does not come to our door.

Parking

There is street parking in the area. Look at the signs to see how often to check for chalk marks on your tires. We recommend parking south of Dundas Street, as there have been a number of car break ins under the bridge.
